וסליק נחש מלכא דבני עמון ושרא על יבש גלעד ואמרו כל אנשי יבש לנחש גזר לנא קים ונפלחינך:
wnplkhynk qym lna gzr lnkhsh ybsh anshy kl wamrw gled ybsh el wshra emwn dbny mlka nkhsh wslyq
Then Nahash the Ammonite came up and encamped against Jabesh Gilead; and all the men of Jabesh said to Nahash, “Make a covenant with us, and we will serve you.”

ואמר להון נחש מלכא דבני עמון בהדא אגזר לכון במיקר לכון כל עינא דימינא ואשוינה חיסודא על כל ישראל:
yshral kl el khyswda washwynh dymyna eyna kl lkwn bmyqr lkwn agzr bhda emwn dbny mlka nkhsh lhwn wamr
Nahash the Ammonite said to them, “On this condition I will make it with you, that all your right eyes be gouged out. I will make this dishonor all Israel.”

ואמרו ליה סבי יבש אוריך לנא שבעא יומין ונשלח אזגדין בכל תחום ישראל ואם לית דפריק יתנא ונפוק לותך:
lwthk wnpwq ythna dpryq lyth wam yshral thkhwm bkl azgdyn wnshlkh ywmyn shbea lna awryk ybsh sby lyh wamrw
The elders of Jabesh said to him, “Give us seven days, that we may send messengers to all the borders of Israel; and then, if there is no one to save us, we will come out to you.”

ואתו אזגדיא לגבעתא דשאול ומלילו פתגמיא קדם עמא וארימו כל עמא ית קליהון ובכו:
wbkw qlyhwn yth ema kl warymw ema qdm pthgmya wmlylw dshawl lgbetha azgdya wathw
Then the messengers came to Gibeah of Saul, and spoke these words in the ears of the people, then all the people lifted up their voice and wept.

והא שאול אתא בתר תוריא מן חקלא ואמר שאול מה לעמא ארי בכן ואשתעיאו ליה ית פתגמי אנשי יבש:
ybsh anshy pthgmy yth lyh washtheyaw bkn ary lema mh shawl wamr khqla mn thwrya bthr atha shawl wha
Behold, Saul came following the oxen out of the field; and Saul said, “What ails the people that they weep?” They told him the words of the men of Jabesh.

ושרת רוח גבורא מן קדם יי על שאול כד שמע ית פתגמיא האלין ותקיף רוגזיה לחדא:
lkhda rwgzyh wthqyp halyn pthgmya yth shme kd shawl el yy qdm mn gbwra rwkh wshrth
God’s Spirit came mightily on Saul when he heard those words, and his anger burned hot.

ונסיב פדן תוריא והדמיה ושלח בכל תחום ישראל ביד אזגדיא למימר דליתוהי נפיק בתר שאול ובתר שמואל כדין יתעביד לתוריה ונפל זיעא מן קדם יי על עמא ונפקו כגברא חד:
khd kgbra wnpqw ema el yy qdm mn zyea wnpl lthwryh ythebyd kdyn shmwal wbthr shawl bthr npyq dlythwhy lmymr azgdya byd yshral thkhwm bkl wshlkh whdmyh thwrya pdn wnsyb
He took a yoke of oxen and cut them in pieces, then sent them throughout all the borders of Israel by the hand of messengers, saying, “Whoever doesn’t come out after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done to his oxen.” The dread of Yahweh fell on the people, and they came out as one man.

ומנינון בבזק והוו בני ישראל תלת מאה אלפין ואנש יהודה תלתין אלפין:
alpyn thlthyn yhwdh wansh alpyn mah thlth yshral bny whww bbzq wmnynwn
He counted them in Bezek; and the children of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand.

ואמרו לאזגדיא דאתו כדין תימרון לאנש יבש גלעד מחר תהי לכון פורקנא במיחם שמשא ואתו אזגדיא וחויאו לאנשי יבש וחדיאו:
wkhdyaw ybsh lanshy wkhwyaw azgdya wathw shmsha bmykhm pwrqna lkwn thhy mkhr gled ybsh lansh thymrwn kdyn dathw lazgdya wamrw
They said to the messengers who came, “Tell the men of Jabesh Gilead, ‘Tomorrow, by the time the sun is hot, you will be rescued.’” The messengers came and told the men of Jabesh; and they were glad.

ואמרו אנשי יבש מחר נפוק לותכון ותעבדון לנא ככול דתקין בעיניכון:
beynykwn dthqyn kkwl lna wthebdwn lwthkwn npwq mkhr ybsh anshy wamrw
Therefore the men of Jabesh said, “Tomorrow we will come out to you, and you shall do with us all that seems good to you.”

והוה ביומא דבתרוהי ומני שאול ית עמא תלתא משירין ועלו בגו משריתא במטרת צפרא ומחו ית בני עמון עד מיחם יומא והוו דאשתארו ואתבדרו ולא אשתארו בהון תרין דערקין כחדא:
kkhda derqyn thryn bhwn ashtharw wla wathbdrw dashtharw whww ywma mykhm ed emwn bny yth wmkhw tspra bmTrth mshrytha bgw welw mshyryn thltha ema yth shawl wmny dbthrwhy bywma whwh
On the next day, Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the middle of the camp in the morning watch, and struck the Ammonites until the heat of the day. Those who remained were scattered, so that no two of them were left together.

ואמר עמא לשמואל מא דין די מבסר למימר לא כשר שאול לממלך עלנא איתו גבריא ונקטלינון:
wnqTlynwn gbrya aythw elna lmmlk shawl kshr la lmymr mbsr dy dyn ma lshmwal ema wamr
The people said to Samuel, “Who is he who said, ‘Shall Saul reign over us?’ Bring those men, that we may put them to death!”

ואמר שאול לא יתקטיל גברא ביומא הדין ארי יומא דין עבד יי פורקנא בישראל:
byshral pwrqna yy ebd dyn ywma ary hdyn bywma gbra ythqTyl la shawl wamr
Saul said, “No man shall be put to death today; for today Yahweh has rescued Israel.”

ואמר שמואל לעמא איתו ונזיל לגלגלא ונחדת תמן מלכותא:
mlkwtha thmn wnkhdth lglgla wnzyl aythw lema shmwal wamr
Then Samuel said to the people, “Come! Let’s go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there.”

ואזלו כל עמא לגלגלא ואמליכו תמן ית שאול קדם יי בגלגלא ונכיסו תמן נכסת קודשין קדם יי וחדי תמן שאול וכל אנשי ישראל עד לחדא:
lkhda ed yshral anshy wkl shawl thmn wkhdy yy qdm qwdshyn nksth thmn wnkysw bglgla yy qdm shawl yth thmn wamlykw lglgla ema kl wazlw
All the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before Yahweh in Gilgal. There they offered sacrifices of peace offerings before Yahweh; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.
